The Abu Dhabi Book Fair 2010 runs from March 2 to 7, 2010. Switzerland is represented with two authors: Ms. Ilma Rakusa and Mr. Peter Stamm at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC).

Ilma Rakusa is a Swiss writer, journalist and translator, and has published many collections of short stories, several volumes of poetry and numerous essays. She has been awarded several prizes for her writing and her translations, including the Leipzig Book Award for European Understanding (1998), the Schiller Prize of the Zurich Kantonalbank (1998) and the Award of the International Literature Festival Vilencia/Slovenia (2006). Ilma is a member of the German Academy of Language and Poetry in Darmstadt and serves as a juror for many literary institutions. In 2009 she was awarded the Swiss Book Prize for her book Mehr Meer, a memoir of sorts on growing up the child of a Slovenian father and a Hungarian mother in small-town Slovakia, Budapest, Ljubljana, Triest and Zuerich – and moving on to the wider world.

Peter Stamm was born in 1963 in Weinfelden, in the Swiss canton of Thurgau. He did a business apprenticeship and studied English, Information Technology, Psychology and Psychopathology for a while. Later he worked as a journalist, writing, among other things, for the Neue Zuercher Zeitung and the Weltwoche, as well as for the satirical magazine Nebelspalter. He also wrote radio plays, several of which received awards. In 1998 his widely noted debut, the novel AGNES appeared, which has since been translated into fifteen languages. Peter Stamm, who works also as a translator, has been awarded various literature prizes as well as grants.

Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi and H.E. Mr. Gerhard Bruegger, Consul General of Switzerland

On April 7, 2010, RAK Hospital will host a unique contemporary art exhibition with 18 local and resident artists on the theme Tracking the Emirates and Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qassimi and H.E. Mr. Gerhard Bruegger, Consul General of Switzerland. RAK Hospital and partner organization Swiss Art Gate UAE aim to support and strengthen the local and regional art scene with an exhibition of the works of 18 artists from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Sharjah.

Selected artists (resident of the UAE) have got the opportunity to explore the theme Tracking the Emirates with visual artworks like paintings, prints, installations, sculptures, video art or photographs, etc. The artworks shall show an extensive exchange with past, present and future local roots. All artworks have been created especially for this exhibition. The purpose of this exhibition will be to highlight the quality of local artwork in the UAE. The exhibition will last from 8th April until 7th August 2010 beginning with an opening ceremony on April 7, 2010 (International World Health Day). A catalogue presenting all artists and artworks will be made available.
